How to present a property for sale

Romaine Lowery of The Clutter Clinic points out you don’t have to be selling to call in a house doctor. She recently helped mother of two Sarah Paul through three moves, from a London vicarage, into rented accommodation and from there to a renovated property in Hampshire, de-cluttering, selling unwanted designer clothes, and calling in auctioneers.
“I’m a terrible hoarder,” Sarah says, “but Romaine persuaded me I didn’t need to keep Country Life and The World of Interiors going back 20 years. She instinctively picks out what’s important to you, like the cast of my child’s hand, for example. She decluttered a six-bedroom vicarage, top to bottom, attic to cellar, reorganised my filing system and sorted out my paperwork.”
Romaine points out that people are more prepared to relieve themselves of clutter now that recycling makes them feel less guilty about it. Sometimes it is a question of “giving people permission” to get rid of things, she says, and this often comes as a great relief.
